History

The Master Program of Environmental Management Study Program (MPEM) Postgraduate School of Hasanuddin University was opened in 1982 along with several other study programs affiliated with IPB. This opening aims to improve the quality of human resources and prevent environmental damage through education. In 1986 MPEM began to be independent, meaning it was no longer affiliated with IPB. However, operational permits from the Directorate General of Higher Education were only granted on October 21 1993 through Decree number 152 / DIKTI / Kep / 1993.

Currently, the MPEM at the Postgraduate School has four concentrations, namely Environmental Management, Natural Resource Conservation, Environmental Technology, and Environmental Sociology and Anthropology. Prospective students come from various undergraduate educational backgrounds from faculties related to the environment such as Maritime Affairs, Fisheries, Forestry, Agriculture, Engineering, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Mining, both from state and private universities as well as local government human resources and private agencies related to environmental management life.

MPEM has very adequate learning facilities and infrastructure because it already has building facilities with rooms that are very adequate in terms of quantity and quality, equipped with learning technology (teaching modules, OHP and LCD as well as multimedia). To increase the practical experience of MPEM students, field practices are carried out and public lectures are regularly held inviting professors and practitioners from both within and outside the country. Collaboration has been built with various parties, for example Rhode Island University, UPM, etc.

Currently, MPEM has EXCELLENT accredited status by BAN PT. This superior accreditation really helps students in getting scholarships, for example LPDP, and increases the interest of prospective students to come to study.
